Mayer Networks

Managed IT

Good IT Strategy Prevents Expensive Surprises

Mayer Networks helps leadership decide what to replace, what to keep, what is actually at risk, what belongs in cloud and what should be budgeted next year. We assess the environment, document what it runs on, and build a realistic multi-year plan for infrastructure, security and applications, with the reasoning written down so it survives a budget meeting.

Why this matters

Good IT Strategy Prevents Expensive Surprises

Most damaging technology spending is not caused by bad decisions. It is caused by decisions made under pressure, after something already failed.

Questions leadership has to answer

  • What should we replace, and what is fine for another two years?
  • What is actually at risk right now?
  • What should we budget for next year?
  • What should move to cloud, and what should stay onsite?
  • When should this equipment be refreshed?
  • Which cybersecurity investment matters most for us?
  • Does this vendor recommendation actually make sense?
  • What will this project realistically cost?

What we bring to those answers

Recommendations from engineers who operate infrastructure every day, including the infrastructure we host ourselves. We are the ones who have to live with a bad design, which is a useful constraint on advice.

The output is a written plan with options, sequencing and estimated cost that survives the meeting it is presented in, including the parts where the honest answer is to spend nothing this year.

Who this is for

  • Organizations facing a server or infrastructure replacement
  • Leadership teams that need a defensible technology budget
  • Organizations preparing for growth, a move, or a new facility
  • Boards and public bodies that need an independent technical opinion

What usually prompts the call

  • Capital purchases are made without an architecture behind them
  • Applications, licensing and infrastructure decisions conflict with each other
  • Nobody can explain the current environment to leadership in plain terms
  • Risk is understood anecdotally rather than assessed

What we take on

  • Environment assessment and documentation
  • Infrastructure and network architecture
  • Cloud versus on-premises analysis
  • Lifecycle and replacement planning
  • Security posture review
  • Budget modeling for capital and recurring cost
  • Project planning and vendor evaluation

How an engagement runs

  1. Step 1

    Discover

Interviews with leadership and staff, plus technical inventory of systems, licensing and connectivity.

  2. Step 2

    Analyze

We compare the current environment against operational requirements, risk and cost.

  3. Step 3

    Recommend

A written plan with options, sequencing and estimated cost, not a single vendor pitch.

  4. Step 4

    Execute

We can implement the plan, or hand it to your team.

Ongoing

For Managed Clients, Planning Is Part of the Relationship

Technology planning should not be a conversation that only happens after a failure.

Recurring reviews

What is aging, what is at risk, what changed, and what should be scheduled next.

Budget input

Cost guidance ahead of the budget cycle rather than a quote after an outage.

Project sequencing

Work staged across fiscal years so nothing has to be done all at once.

Planning

We Do Not Only Support Today's Equipment

Managed clients should never learn about a replacement from a failure.

What you own

An inventory of servers, workstations, network and security hardware that is maintained as the environment changes.

How old it is

Age and warranty status tracked per device so nothing quietly falls out of support.

When it should be replaced

Expected replacement timing based on the role a device plays, not a generic three-year rule.

What it will cost

Budget guidance for upcoming refresh cycles and projects so leadership sees the number early.

How we run it

The Work That Keeps Problems From Becoming Emergencies

Most disruption is predictable. These are the habits that keep it off your calendar and out of your budget.

Lifecycle planning

We track age, warranty and replacement timing so equipment becomes a planned budget item rather than an emergency purchase.

Vendor coordination

We document vendor escalation paths and deal directly with software, carrier and equipment providers when a problem crosses organizational boundaries.

Documentation

Environment documentation is maintained as systems change, so support never depends on one person's memory.

Budget planning

We identify infrastructure and project needs before the next budget cycle rather than after something fails.

Designed for real connectivity

Networks are designed around the circuits actually available at your address, including multi-building and fixed-wireless sites.

Legacy applications handled

When a line-of-business application blocks an upgrade, we isolate and protect it instead of stalling the rest of the environment.

Why Mayer Networks

A Managed IT Partner With Twenty Years Behind It

Serving Southern Illinois since 2006. Managed IT has been the core of the business the entire time.

Engineers you can reach

Local engineers deliver the remote and onsite work and back the 24/7/365 coverage, so after-hours support is not a queue in another time zone.

Business and government experience

Private companies, healthcare organizations, nonprofits and public-sector agencies across the region, each with different compliance and budget realities.

Infrastructure we answer for

Hosting, backup and recovery can run on infrastructure we operate ourselves in Carbondale, so accountability does not end at a vendor boundary.

What an assessment actually produces

An assessment is only useful if it survives the meeting it is presented in. Ours is written for the person who has to defend the spending: current state described plainly, risks ranked by likely impact rather than by severity score, and remediation sequenced across budget periods with the reasoning for the order stated.

That includes saying when something does not need to be replaced. Hardware with three good years left, an application that works, a design that is unfashionable but sound: recommending replacement in those cases is how consulting turns into selling.

Why Mayer Networks

  • Recommendations come from engineers who operate infrastructure daily
  • We host and support what we design, so bad designs come back to us
  • Practical sequencing that respects budgets and grant cycles
  • Responsive remote and onsite support from engineers based in Southern Illinois, not a queue in another time zone.

Security considerations

  • Security requirements are part of architecture, not an add-on
  • Regulatory and insurance requirements are considered up front
  • Recovery objectives are defined before infrastructure is selected

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Call 618-529-4922 or send us the details.

Can we hire you only for an assessment?

Yes. Assessments and planning engagements are available independently of ongoing services.

Do you recommend cloud for everything?

No. Some workloads belong in Microsoft 365 or a hyperscale cloud, some in our private cloud, and some on-premises. The analysis drives the answer.

Do you help with grant or procurement documentation?

We can provide technical specifications and supporting detail for procurement and grant processes.

How long does an assessment take?

Most assessments take a few weeks depending on the size of the environment and staff availability.
